Round river stone 3/4 inch - smooth natural glacial pebbles earth tones

3/4" Round River Stone – Smooth Decorative Landscape Pebble

3/4" Round River Stone – Smooth Natural Pebble for Gardens & Ground Cover

3/4" round river stone is a naturally tumbled glacial pebble with a smooth, rounded profile and a blend of earth tones — greys, tans, beiges, and occasional muted reds. At 3/4 inch, this is the most popular size for decorative ground cover in the Windsor-Essex area.

The smooth shape and consistent sizing make it comfortable underfoot and easy to spread evenly. Unlike crushed angular stone, round stone does not compact or interlock — which makes it ideal for garden beds, foundation borders, and areas where drainage and aesthetics matter more than structural support.

Key Applications

  • Garden Beds & Borders: Creates a clean, natural ground cover. Install 2-3 inches deep over landscape fabric for weed suppression.
  • Foundation Splash Strips: The most common use in Essex County — a 12-18 inch strip of round stone against the foundation keeps soil from splashing onto siding and provides visual contrast.
  • Decorative Ground Cover: A permanent, low-maintenance alternative to mulch. Will not fade, decompose, or attract insects.
  • Around Water Features: Natural-looking stone that complements ponds, fountains, and dry creek bed edges.

Important Note

Round stone is not recommended for driveways or high-traffic walkways — the smooth stones shift underfoot and do not lock together. For walkable areas, use a crushed angular stone instead. Install edging to prevent migration into lawn areas.

1"-3" Round River Stone – Decorative Glacial Landscape Rock

1"-3" Round River Stone – Decorative Glacial Landscape Rock

Glacial Round Stone (River Rock) for Decorative Landscaping

Our glacial round stone (often referred to as river rock) is a naturally rounded decorative landscape stone sourced from glacial deposits. It features smooth edges and a consistent blend of earth tones including greys, tans, beiges, and muted reds. Sold in bulk, this stone is commonly used for decorative ground cover and drainage applications where appearance matters.

Because of its smooth, rounded shape, round stone does not compact or lock together like crushed stone. It is best suited for garden beds, around foundations, and other areas where drainage and aesthetics are more important than structural strength. It is not recommended for driveways or high-traffic walkways.

Choose Your Size

  • 3/8" Glacial Round Stone: A smaller decorative option that works well in garden beds, around shrubs, and in areas where a finer texture is preferred. Provides effective drainage while maintaining a lighter visual appearance.
  • 3/4" Glacial Round Stone: The most common size for river rock ground cover. Heavy enough to stay in place during rainfall, yet easy to spread and maintain. Frequently used for foundation splash strips to help reduce soil splash and keep siding cleaner.

Common uses in Windsor-Essex include garden beds, decorative ground cover, drainage areas, and foundation splash strips. Due to its rounded shape, this material is not suitable for driveways.

1-2" Black Granite – Bold Decorative Landscape Stone

1-2" Black Granite – Bold Decorative Landscape Stone

1-2" Black Granite – Large Angular Stone for Beds, Borders & Dry Creek Beds

1-2" black granite is the larger counterpart to our 3/4" clear stone — same crushed gabbro (trap rock) material, same deep charcoal-to-black colour, but with more visual presence. At this size, each stone is individually visible with sharp angular facets that catch light and create depth and texture across a landscape bed. The dark colour is natural and mineral-based, so it will not fade with sun exposure.

The larger size changes how the stone is used. Where 3/4" creates a tight, uniform carpet, 1-2" produces a bolder, more dimensional look with visible shadows between stones. This makes it the better choice for large landscape beds, wide borders, dry creek beds, and areas where you want the stone itself to be a design feature rather than just a ground cover.

Designed for Impact in Larger Spaces

In the Windsor-Essex area, 1-2" black granite is commonly used for front-yard landscape beds, commercial property borders, and modern low-maintenance designs where homeowners are replacing annual mulch with a permanent stone ground cover. The dark tones pair well with the light-coloured brick and concrete common in Essex County subdivisions, and the granite handles our freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or breaking down.

Key Applications

  • Landscape Beds & Borders: Install 3-4 inches deep over landscape fabric for full coverage. The larger stones require a deeper layer than 3/4" stone to prevent gaps showing through to the fabric.
  • Dry Creek Beds: One of the best uses at this size. The angular 1-2" pieces create a natural-looking drainage channel. Lay 3-5 inches deep and mix with a few larger accent boulders for realism.
  • Around Water Features: Dark stone around ponds and fountains makes water look richer and more reflective. Granite is scratch-proof and wear-resistant in wet environments.
  • Erosion Control on Slopes: Heavier individual stones resist displacement from water runoff better than smaller aggregate. The angular edges interlock and hold position on grades.

Important Note

Because the stones are larger, gaps between them are wider — you need a minimum of 3 inches deep (effectively two layers of stone) for proper weed suppression and coverage. Edging is essential to keep stone contained, especially along lawn borders. Like all black granite, the stone appears darkest when wet and lighter charcoal when dry. A rinse after installation removes quarry dust and reveals the full colour.

1" Pink Clear Stone – Decorative Crushed Granite

1" Pink Clear Stone – Decorative Crushed Granite

1" Pink Clear Stone – Crushed Granite for Gardens, Borders & Decorative Beds

Pink clear stone is a crushed granite aggregate sized to approximately 1 inch, prized for its natural salmon-pink colour with flecks of grey and white throughout. The pink tone comes from potassium feldspar in the granite itself — it is not dyed or coated, which means the colour will not fade over time. When wet, the stone deepens to a richer rose with a natural sparkle from exposed quartz crystals.

Because it is crushed rather than tumbled, the angular edges interlock when placed, creating a more stable surface than rounded river rock. At the same time, the uniform 1-inch sizing with no fines means water drains freely through the gaps — making this a clear stone that is both decorative and functional.

A Standout Option for Windsor-Essex Landscapes

Pink clear stone is one of the less common decorative aggregates in the Windsor-Essex area, which makes it an effective way to set a property apart. The warm pink tones contrast well against dark mulch borders, green foliage, and the neutral tones of concrete or limestone common in Southwestern Ontario homes. It also handles our freeze-thaw cycles without breaking down, unlike softer decorative options.

Key Applications

  • Garden Beds & Borders: Creates a clean, colourful ground cover that suppresses weeds when installed over landscape fabric at 3 inches deep.
  • Decorative Accents: Use around tree rings, along walkways, or as a contrast border against darker stone for visual interest.
  • Pathways: The angular edges lock together underfoot, providing a more stable walking surface than rounded pea stone. Install 3 inches deep with proper edging.
  • Drainage Features: Functions as a clear stone — works in decorative French drain channels or areas where you need both drainage and appearance.

Important Note

Install at a minimum of 3 inches deep for proper coverage — at 1 inch in size, a thinner layer will show gaps to the fabric or soil below. Use landscape fabric underneath for weed suppression, and install edging to prevent stone from migrating into lawn areas. Fresh stone may have quarry dust that mutes the colour initially; the first rain will wash it off and reveal the full pink tone.

1/4 inch pea stone P-stone decorative gravel - top down view of small smooth rounded natural pebbles

1/4" Pea Stone (P-Stone) – Smooth, Comfortable Ground Cover

Comfortable, Versatile, and Pet-Friendly Ground Cover

Pea stone, also known as P-stone, gets its name from its size, roughly that of a green pea. This naturally rounded glacial stone has smooth edges and contains no sharp fragments, making it one of the most comfortable aggregates available for foot traffic and pet use.

Because of its small size and rounded shape, pea stone provides excellent drainage while remaining soft underfoot. It is commonly used in areas where comfort, cleanliness, and appearance are more important than compaction or load-bearing strength.

Common Uses

  • Dog Runs: Easy on paws, drains quickly, and simple to rake or scoop for routine cleaning.
  • Play Areas: A clean, stone-based alternative to wood chips for backyard play spaces.
  • Decorative Borders: A fine-textured accent around garden beds, flagstone, and walkways.

Caution: Due to its smooth, rounded shape, pea stone does not lock together. It is not recommended for driveways or walkways with wheeled traffic such as strollers or wheelchairs, as wheels may sink or shift the stone.

Commonly used throughout Kingsville, Leamington and the Windsor-Essex area for dog runs, play areas, and decorative landscaping.
